Iran's Revolutionary Guards said today missiles it fired into Syria had successfully hit Islamic State group targets in retaliation for Tehran attacks claimed by the jihadists earlier this month.

The attack on the Syrian aircraft came hours after pro-Syrian regime forces attacked US -backed Syrian Democratic Forces in the village of Ja'Din, southwest of Raqqa, according to a press statement released by Combined Joint Task Force, the USA -led global coalition against the Islamic State group, also called ISIS.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it had fired six missiles from western Iran into northeastern Syria on Sunday, targeting "terror bases".

"The IRGC warns the Takfiri terrorists and their regional and trans-regional supporters that they would be engulfed by its revolutionary wrath and flames of the fire of its revenge in case they repeat any such devilish and dirty move in future", the IRGC added.

Activists in Syria said they had no immediate information on damage or casualties from the strikes, launched from Iran's Kurdistan and Kermanshah provinces.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard launched the missiles against the site in Deir al-Zour, according to the Tasnim news agency.

Iran had earlier insinuated that the United States and Saudi Arabia - its chief regional foe - had encouraged the June 7 attacks on Iran's Parliament and the mausoleum of the late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, which killed 17 people.

Fakhar, who scored his maiden ODI century in style with a four off the 31st over, was awarded Player of the Match. Whatever happened in the past has happened but he is the number one bowler in Pakistan cricket.

This is likely to bring new attention to Iran's development of conventional missiles, something that USA officials have used as a justification for sanctions. State television footage showed the missiles on truck missile launchers in the daylight before being launched at night.

The missile attack on Syria was Iran's first strike outside its own territory in almost 30 years, the Times of Israel reported.

Iran announced on June 11 that the mastermind of the Tehran attacks was killed outside of Iran in an Iranian-led operation in coordination with the intelligence of "a friendly foreign country", Iran's intelligence minister Mahmoud Alavi said. Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) claimed responsibility for the attacks.

"The Saudis and Americans are especially receivers of this message", he said. The Syrian army said the warplane was on a mission against Islamic State militants when it was shot down.

Shiite-majority Iran and Sunni-majority Saudi Arabia have long had a sectarian feud.

Meanwhile, the US -backed opposition fighters said Assad's forces have been attacking their positions in the northern province of Raqqa and warned that if such attacks continue, the fighters will take action.

Iran's homegrown missiles, a serious point of contention with Washington and Tel Aviv, can reach up to 2,000 kilometres.
