As the victims of the fire entered the Downing Street, hundreds of demonstrators had gathered in Whitehall to protest against the prime minister. Some 600 people were living in the tower's 120 apartments. All the rest are homeless.

Cundy said the images and video of the scenes inside the Grenfell Tower would be released on Sunday, adding "We will not do that until we have contacted all the families we are supporting to let them know that's our intention".

The fire occurred early Wednesday morning, quickly spreading through the 20 storey block.

Cundy said the search was paused over safety concerns Friday, but has since resumed.

The fire that consumed London's Grenfell Tower, tragically killing at least 30 people, may have dissipated, but it has once again focused attention on the city's social housing crisis.

NHS England says the injured are being treated in four London hospitals. According to the latest police data, at least 58 people are still missing.

There has been growing fury on the low-rent estate where residents wanted answers on why the fire was able to spread so rapidly and why complaints about safety had been ignored.

Some voiced anger that the official death toll has remained far lower than the figure to which many expect it to rise.
