Microsoft Surface Laptop is extremely hard to fix

However, this time the folks at iFixit did not have a smooth journey.

Microsoft recently launched the #Surface #Laptop and the new Surface Pro. iFixit has taken up the #Surface laptop and attempted to disassemble the device to check its repairability.

The Surface Laptop is a handsome looking device which has great standard specs for a non-gaming laptop and can be configured with the latest Core i5 and i7 processors from Intel, from 4GB to 16GB of RAM, and from 128GB to 1TB of PCIe storage. There was no way in between, and they learned it the hard way.

To be fair, Microsoft is not the only one manufacturer to come up with new products that are almost impossible to fix. Thus, to open the laptop one would have to peel the Alcantara fabric.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how Bixby Voice compares against the likes of Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. The leaked spec sheet also says that the OnePlus 5 will feature a 4,000mAh battery pack and a 23-megapixel camera.

As for the Surface Pro, it looks to offer a similar build to the Surface Pro 4 and just requires the screen to be popped off in order to access the internal components.

In conclusion, it said that it is "a glue-filled monstrosity". And while most of the device might comfortably get through a couple of years of use, batteries are often need a midlife replacement. The battery can not be changed with time and, thus, can not be upgraded regarding hardware.

While numerous internal components are standard parts the teardown team has seen before, once the device is opened there's no way for all the king's horsemen and all the kings men to put Humpty together again. This is a first for a Surface device, with iFixit adding that "there is nothing about it that is upgradable or long-lasting, and it literally can't be opened without destroying it".
