Proposed DUP deal would not undermine Good Friday Agreement, insists May

Her comments follow warnings by Sinn Féin, the SDLP and the Alliance Party, that a deal with the DUP would undermine the British Government's attempts to restore the power-sharing executive at Stormont.

According to a statement, Mr Davis is expected to say that while there is a long road ahead, the destination was clear - "A deep and special partnership between the United Kingdom and the EU".

Mr Coveney said a deal was "do-able" but there were differences between the parties that needed to be bridged.

In an effort to strengthen her mandate in negotiating the exit process, Prime Minister Theresa May called early elections, only to result in the ruling Conservative Party losing its majority.

The intervention comes after Brexit Secretary David Davis was seen to have been dealt a blow in the opening day of withdrawal negotiations with the European Union, after it was agreed trade deal talks would not begin until October at the earliest.

Sinn Fein and the Democratic Unionists both agree a deal to restore a powersharing administration in Northern Ireland can be done by the end of the month.

She said: "We continue our discussions with the DUP".

The parties have until 29 June to reach agreement and have been warned that direct rule could follow if they can't.

Similarly, another TRS leader Jithender Reddy also backed the NDA's decision and said Kovind is a good choice for the country. The main Opposition parties like Congress , Left and Trinamool Congress had hinted that they might opt for a contest.

The Sunday Times said ministers within May's cabinet had "let it be known" they would oust the prime minister if they thought she could not pass the government's legislative programme in a vote expected on June 28.

Declan Kearney, the party's chairman, said a DUP focus on Ms Foster's future role at Stormont "is completely misdirected and premature".

"That is why Sinn Fein stood the DUP leader down from her position last January", he said.

It also suggests a public consultation on plans to deal with the legacy of the Troubles, and details ways of making Northern Ireland's government more accountable.

But the Government says the bill will unlock investment and help rebalance the British economy away from South East England's financial and political centre.

Ms May said she was steadfastly committed to the Good Friday Agreement and wanted to see a "close and special partnership" with the Republic of Ireland post-Brexit.

Grayling said the DUP were not interested in another election and added there should not be a change of prime minister amid questions over May's own position after the botched election campaign and her response to a deadly London tower block fire in which at least 79 people died. "We are hopeful of getting a resolution to them as quickly as possible", he said. "They can't have it both ways, it has to be dealt with sensibly", she said.
