Some 66,000 "H-2B" visas were allocated for this summer, and resorts from ME to Florida along the USA east coast have complained they don´t have enough.

During a call with reporters, a senior DHS official said the additional visas "absolutely" fits in with Trump's campaign promise to put America first.

They are regarded as countries with the most total overstays that do not participate in the visa waiver programme.

H-2B visas allow non-agricultural workers to gain temporary employment in the United States if businesses are unable to find qualified USA workers.

The Trump administration announced Monday an increase in seasonal worker visas that U.S. resorts depend on, but the move halfway through the summer is unlikely to alleviate a nationwide shortage.

President Donald Trump has been outspoken against what he views as abuses of the H-1B visa program, which allows companies to employ workers over a longer period of time in specialty occupations, including science and technology.

Boy, 1, dies after being in hot auto in Fla
The child's uncle, Carly Saint Saveur, claimed the auto was parked in the driveway with a dead battery. 'I'm scared for him'. Police arrived at the home, which is in a community that lies 50 miles north of Miami, at 3.20pm on Saturday afternoon.

"This is yet another example of the administration and congress failing to keep the Trump campaign promise of putting American workers first", he told The Washington Post. Until past year, guest workers who had already participated were not counted toward the cap.

The way Trump spoke on the campaign trail, one would expect him to limit the number of available H-2B visas, thereby forcing employers to raise wages until local, USA -born workers were willing to take the jobs.

US Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly found after consulting with Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta that there were not enough qualified and willing American workers available to perform temporary nonagricultural work, the department said in a statement.

Daniel Costa, an immigration expert at the left-leaning Economic Policy Institute, said there is no real evidence of a nationwide labor shortage in the industries that rely on H-2B visas, although employers could be strapped in certain geographic areas. Instead of adding more visas, the White House should focus "on program oversight, on rooting out bad-actor employers who violate H-2B rules, and on protecting the migrant workers who come to the United States in search of better opportunities".

"It's not that Americans don't want work, it's that Americans don't want these jobs because they're back-breaking hard work", Bishop said.

"As a demonstration of the administration's commitment to supporting American businesses, DHS is providing this one-time increase to the congressionally set annual cap", Kelly said in a statement.
