Ruby Corp and Plaintiffs Reach Proposed Settlement of Class Action Lawsuit Regarding Ashley Madison Data Breach

In 2015, Ashley Madison, adult dating site created to facilitate discreet, extramarital affairs, reported that its user databases had been leaked, revealing the details of up to 37 million users.

Sensitive information, including photographs and "sexual fantasies", was leaked.

"If the proposed settlement agreement is approved by the Court, ruby will contribute a total of $11.2 million United States dollars to a settlement fund, which will provide, among other things, payments to settlement class members who submit valid claims for alleged losses resulting from the data breach and alleged misrepresentations as described further in the proposed settlement agreement", it said. In 2015, TrustedSec Chief Executive Dave Kennedy said the information dump included full names, passwords, street addresses, credit card information and "an extensive amount of internal data".

Coulter snapped a photo of the offending flier, and tweeted the image of the innocent by-sitters to her 1.6 million followers. I'm very sorry you had to change your seat on board today! "Her actions are unnecessary and unacceptable", it read .

Lawsuits against the company alleged that Ashley Madison used inadequate data security practices and failed to protect user information, a serious issue especially concerning the nature of the service.

Avid Dating Life has since renamed itself Ruby Life, and it has reached a settlement with a Dowd & Dowd, P.C, The Driscoll Firm, P.C., and Heninger Garrison Davis, LLC, who have led the plaintiffs' case.

The settlement first has to be approved by a court and, if it is, the amount will be used to pay customers who sustained losses due to the data breach. The firm agreed to pay $1.66 million to settle a Federal Trade Commission probe. Although it might not sound like a lot, those with valid claims will be able to file for a maximum of $3,500, depending on what kind of losses they suffered because of the incident. It once purported to have about 39 million members.
