Britain can still remain in European Union, says former British PM Blair

Blair said: "The French and Germans share some of the British worries, notably around immigration, and would compromise on freedom of movement". "The opposition to free movement of people, once you break it down, is much more nuanced".

In an interview set to be aired on Sky News Sunday, he said "I think it's possible now that Brexit doesn't happen".

Blair also told Sky News that "every day is bringing us fresh evidence" of Brexit's harm to Britain, with economic growth slowing and the value of the pound down sharply since the June 2016 European Union membership referendum. "I think they thought that the likelihood was that the Tories would be the government, but were determined to neuter the mandate".

Along with the comments, Blair's institute has released polling conducted on its behalf which shows, among other findings, that the majority of Britons are split on whether they would like a so-called soft or hard Brexit.

Many Western EU leaders are indeed concerned to limit free movement only to workers - as specified in the EU treaty.

"Given what is at stake, and what, daily, we are discovering about the costs of Brexit, how can it be right deliberately to take off the table the option of compromise between Britain and Europe so that Britain stays within a reformed Europe?" he said.

2nd person of interest in custody in Bucks killings, reports say
Kratz told interviewers DiNardo "basically crushes him" with the backhoe (referring to Meo). "In exchange for that confession, Mr. DiNardo allegedly told investigators he then took the gun and shot Finocchiaro a second time as the victim lay on the ground.

He had kinder words for current Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, saying that the June election result was "remarkable".

The former prime minister did not spend time talking to voters "in the pubs, the clubs and school gates", the Shadow Chancellor noted.

The Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn, said the party respected the outcome of last year's referendum vote to leave, while McDonnell insisted there was no desire to reopen the divisions over Brexit.

He wrote: "If a rightwing populist punch in the form of Brexit was followed by a leftwing populist punch in the form of unreconstructed hard-left economics, Britain would hit the canvas, flat on our back and be out for a long count".

Blair - who was responsible for the centrist "New Labour" approach in the 1990s - has frequently criticised Corbyn, and has even in recent years indicated his intention to return to politics and public life.

The former prime minister has been one of the most outspoken opponents of Brexit, and claims there is no evidence Britain "wants to pay a high economic price for Brexit".
