The Carolina Panthers have fired general manager Dave Gettleman less than two weeks before the opening of training camp. This decision comes days before training camp opens, and leaves the Panthers to wonder if they will be able to bounce back from their disappointing 6-10 finish a year ago.

Hiring Beane effectively removed him as an option for the Panthers and with Panthers team President Danny Morrison resigning in February, there is a notable dearth of leadership at the top for the Carolina club owned by Jerry Richardson.

"After much thought and a long evaluation of our football operations, I have chose to relieve Dave Gettleman of his duties as general manager", Panthers owner Jerry Richardson said in a release announcing the decision.

During an appearance on the Know Them from Adam podcast last week, Williams said the Panthers were one of four teams he wouldn't play for next season, along with the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars and Dallas Cowboys. Carolina became the first team in NFC South history to win the division title in consecutive years.

Gettleman helped Carolina make the playoffs in three of his four years with the team, including a 15-1 record in 2015 and 12-4 in 2013. Norman had his franchise tag rescinded, which led to the cornerback signing with the Redskins.

Josh Norman and Steve Smith Sr. both expressed their feelings in different ways, but Williams calling Gettleman a "snake" certainly tops the cake.
