Fifty-seven percent in this ABC News/Washington Post poll also say that the more they hear about Trump the less they like him, vs. 29 percent who like him more.

The poll also shows that 63 percent say it was inappropriate for Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr.; his son-in-law, Jared Kushner; and campaign manager, Paul Manafort, to have met with a Russian lawyer during the campaign.

President Trump's approval rating remains at 50 percent in the counties that propelled his win in the 2016 election, a new poll on Sunday reveals.

Nearly half of all Americans (48 per cent) see the country's leadership in the world as weaker since Trump was inaugurated, compared with 27 per cent who say it is stronger.

Not only is Trump stunningly unpopular, but his support has already been reduced to base levels, and the bad news for this White House is that there is plenty of room for him to drop.

Despite all evidence to the contrary, just over 3 in 10 Americans still do not think the Russian government tried to influence the outcome of last fall's USA presidential election.

However, Trump polled better on the economy, with 43% approving of how the president is handling the economy, and a further 41% disapproving of his performance on the economy. Half of Americans preferred Obamacare to the proposals the Republicans have drawn up to replace it.

A president's job approval rating is the essential barometer of his popularity, but it can also be unsatisfying in its lack of specificity. That belief is held by 58 percent of whites.
