Everton have had a £40m bid rejected for Gylfi Sigurdsson on the same day that it was confirmed that he won't be travelling for the US Summer Tour.

Several outlets have now claimed that Swansea have rejected a £40m bid from Everton, are holding out for £50m but suspect that the two will meet in the middle.

We can confirm that Gylfi Sigurdsson will not travel with the squad for our pre-season tour of the USA.

The Swans revealed that Sigurdsson does not feel in "the right frame of mind" due to the ongoing speculation over his future.

Swansea also encouraged their most influential player to reconsider his decision not to join the United States tour and, in echoes of Southampton's reaction to Liverpool's pursuit of Virgil van Dijk, suggested Everton may have contravened Premier League rules with an illegal approach to Sigurdsson.

It was reported on Monday that Swansea had put a £50m price tag on Sigurdsson amid strong interest from Everton and Leicester.

"I don't know how people are going to behave in the future". He's professional like he's always been with me and, from what I'm seeing from him, he's not someone who is getting distracted or frustrated by things and I hope that continues.

John Percy in the Daily Telegraph reports that Everton are hoping to close a deal for Sigurdsson swiftly. "He showed that last season with his goals and his assists, and he was instrumental in us maintaining our Premier League status".

"The fans want that, our owners would like that, but we also know that there is a business side to things".

£50 million for any player with one year remaining is steep, especially one who can be inconsistent like Barkley.

"We had that situation with Jack Cork [who joined Burnley on Tuesday]". It might end up being the same with Gylfi.
