After lifting his record eighth Wimbledon title, 19-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer has insisted that he could continue playing until 40, thus spearheading a late-life era of supremacy alongside rival and Spanish maestro Rafael Nadal.

Twelve months ago, Federer was defeated in five sets in the semi-finals by Milos Raonic and promptly shut down his season to rest a knee injury. That is, he's not going to outrun anybody and he is not going to outjump anybody, but he just seems to have a natural instinct on the court of exactly where the ball needs to be and how to get it there.

The same can not be said of Garbine Muguruza, but the new women's champion - a runner-up at the All England Club two years ago - seemed to be relishing the limelight as she arrived at the swanky ball. I drank too many different types of drinks, I guess.

'I've had some tough ones here but I always believed I could come back here again.

On Sunday, he beat Marin Cilic in straight sets to win an eighth Wimbeldon final but also complete a tournament without dropping a set and with his trademark elegance with the racket.

'I don't know what I did last night, ' the dad-of-four said as he met reporters yesterday to talk about his historic win.

"If you do, I don't know, you must have so much talent and parents and the coaches that push you from the age of three on, who think you're like a project. Yeah, at some stage I nearly feel like I have to be realistic".

The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre issued an alert on Tuesday morning confirming there is no threat to Australia. Tsunami waves were possible for coasts within 186 miles of the quake epicenter, officials said.

This Grand Slam championship was his 19th, also a record, and his second this year.

"It was actually very hard to focus on the match, as well, as my mind was all the time blocked with the pain."It was tough for me to focus on the tactics, on the things that I needed to do".

"Once you step on the court, you see the crowd, you see the final, you see I'm here playing another Wimbledon final", said Muguruza. Most of all, I admire the fact that Federer has remained free of controversy throughout his career.

"To make history here at Wimbledon really means a lot to me just because of all of that really. If I do that, maybe things are actually possible I didn't think were". "The target is to enjoy being Wimbledon champion for a year and Australian Open champion for a year".

"I believe until that time everything is going to be okay", he said.

Roger Federer has been to plenty of Wimbledon Champions' Dinners, the traditional dinner at the end of the grass court Grand Slam which all the winners and esteemed guests attend.

Williams was a point away twice from winning the opening set, ahead 5-4, while Muguruza served.
