On Sunday, HBO sent out a photo that shows a remarkable resemblance between the actor and coach. Riley Keough (The Girlfriend Experience) will play reporter Sara Ganim, who first brought this story to light for The Patriot News as a 23-year-old. Multi-time Oscar victor Barry Levinson is directing the project. The film was written by Debora Cahn and John C. Richards and David McKenna, and is being produced in association with Sony Pictures Television. (Or at the very least, get people thinking about what Pacino looks like as Paterno with make-up and so forth.) Filming is reportedly taking place through September. That may apply to Penn State administrators Tim Curley and Graham Spanier, who were sentenced to prison in connection with the Sandusky scandal, as well.

Paterno died two months after the scandal broke, following his termination by Penn State. The controversial role as Dr. Jack Kevorkian won Pacino an Emmy and a Golden Globe award. Pacino also appeared in "Angels in America". In 1999, Pacino starred in the Oliver Stone hit Any Given Sunday, in which he played Tony D'Amato, the gruff coach of a fictitious football team.

The film, which does not yet have a title is being directed by Barry Levinson.

Pacino was announced in late 2012 to star as Paterno in a film based on the Joe Posnanski biography "Paterno", but in late 2014 HBO announced it was suspending the project because of budget issues. Pacino and Levinson worked together in "You Don't Know Jack" and "Phil Spector".
