The FBI is confirming the human remains dug up in a Dartmouth yard are from long-time fugitive Donald Eugene Webb.

Saxonburg and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are awaiting for a rushed autopsy report to come back, because this may solve the murder as to what happened to Webb.

Webb, who had been among the longest tenured fugitives on the FBI's Most Wanted list, is alleged to have killed Saxonburg Police Chief Gregory Adams in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, Dec. 4, 1980, after what police believe was a routine traffic stop.

The rental vehicle Webb was driving at the time he allegedly shot Gregory Adams of the Saxonburg Borough Police Department was discovered two weeks after his death at a motel in Warwick, Rhode Island.

Police recently had a break in the case when investigators found a hidden room on the other side of a closet in his wife Lillian's house in Dartmouth. "The FBI is grateful to have been able to play a role in helping to resolve this case".

"I feel sorry for her". Webb would be in his 80s now, if he is still alive, WJAR reports.

After the believed-to-be remains were found, she said: "until positive identification has been made, no further comment will be made at this time". "Donald Webb was charged in the murder of Chief Adams".

"What appear to be human remains have been discovered", District Attorney Thomas Quinn said at a news conference Thursday evening.

Webb is the man accused of killing the Saxonburg police chief in 1980. The Bristol DA's office says it's not ready to say if the remains found are Webb's.

"That's always haunted me", she said.

Officials are seen walking onto the property during Thursday's search.

"The biggest question in the history of Saxonburg has been answered", said Saxonburg Police Chief Joseph Beachem in a statement. Pennsylvania State Police assisted with the investigation. "Our thoughts are with the family and we hope this eases their minds, if even only slightly".
