John McCain surgery forces GOP to delay voting on Senate's healthcare bill

U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, will be recovering from surgery in Arizona next week, leading Republican leadership to postpone its health care bill.

McConnell's announcement came immediately after McCain's office discovered that he had undergone a surgical operation to remove a blood clot in his left eye and his doctors warned him to stay in Arizona until next week to get healed.

McConnell said that in McCain's absence the Senate would continue its work on other legislative matters and nominations by President Donald Trump to fill various positions throughout federal agencies. A revised version of the Bill he released earlier last week quickly drew two firm no votes - from senators Rand Paul of Kentucky and Susan Collins of ME - leaving the Kentucky Republican with no margin of error. They said the revisions would also help Alaska and Montana - home to three GOP senators and one Democrat. In addition to two GOP votes of modern GOP Susan Collins of ME and Conservative Rando Paul of Kentucky, at least half a dozen other Republican senators have not supported or voiced reservations about McConnell's Thursday announcement.

A chorus of senators weighed in on McCain's recovery via Twitter, including the Democratic leader Chuck Schumer. A day before his surgery, he released a statement saying: "If we are not able to reach a consensus, the Senate should return to regular order, hold hearings and receive input from senators of both parties" to produce a new bill.

McCain's surgery was a minimally invasive craniotomy, or a surgical opening into the skull, with an eyebrow incision, a statement from his office said, adding that McCain, 80, is resting at his home. Collins, a more moderate Republican said that she felt the Medicaid cuts were too deep.

The fate of Republican efforts to overhaul the USA health care policies championed by former President Barack Obama remained in doubt Sunday, with one key vote delayed that had been set for this week.

"Arizona has been nationally recognized for running one of the most efficient and cost-effective Medicaid programs in the country", McCain said in a statement.

Sen. John McCain said Russia's election-related hacks threaten to "destroy Democracy" and said America's response was 'totally paralyzed'. McConnell did not say how long the delay to consider the bill would be extended.

In an appearance on CBS's Face the Nation July 9, McCain himself didn't seem optimistic about the bill's chances, criticizing the way in which Sen.

"I do want to see more flexibility in the insurance market, but Sen".
