Jose Mourinho Reveals How and Why Potential Alvaro Morata Deal Fell Apart

"Chelsea is his best option" - Transfer market expert says Blues will sign £80million striker

Manchester United are confident about their prospects of fending off Real Madrid's renewed interest in goalkeeper David De Gea, with sources telling ESPN FC that the Old Trafford hierarchy are sceptical over the European champions' ability to pay for the Spain No. 1.

Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho held his first news conference of the summer yesterday at UCLA, where the team is now training for their summer exhibition tour.

United insisted Lukaku was their "principle target" this summer despite having been locked in negotiations with Madrid since it became apparent that Antoine Griezmann would not join at the start of June.

Real have been unable to find a buyer for James Rodriguez, instead agreeing to loan the Colombian midfielder to Bayern Munich earlier this month. It is obvious, it is public and we have not reached an economic agreement. Well, we know that Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata won't be one of them.

"They've identified for a long time that his development at Juventus, his training at Madrid and the fact that he's a consistent trophy victor at a very young age, meant that they thought he was the right player. It's understandable", Mourinho said from United's training camp at UCLA in Los Angeles ahead of the pre-season firiendly with LA Galaxy on Sunday.

Dollar Falls As Weak US Retail Sales, Inflation Cool Fed Rate Hopes
The loonie was about 0.1 percent weaker early on Friday at C$1.2729 to the dollar but is up nearly 1.1 percent this week. Dow Jones closed up by 0.41 percent, S&P 500 ended up 0.47 percent, Nasdaq finished the day up by 0.59 percent.

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci is thought to be closing in on a switch to Serie A giants AC Milan despite Chelsea boss Antonio Conte being a big admirer of the centre-half.

"I can't say any word about a player who is a Chelsea player", Mourinho said.

"(We made) offers we thought were fair and yet no agreement was reached".

It is also being said that the Portuguese manager would like to give Paul Pogba more freedom on the pitch and for that to happen he will need a player who is comfortable to just to sit in front of the backline.
