"We are privileged to support the candidature of Shri Kovindji for the President of India", Patnaik said.

"NPP will support Kovind in the presidential elections and we expect that independents will also extend their support", Parnami told reporters.

"During my gubernatorial stint in Bihar, I never compromised with the dignity of the office", he said.

Kovind addressed the BJD MLAs and MPs at the Assembly conference hall after the chief minister's brief introduction.

Mr. Kovind, who was on a day's visit to the Rajasthan capital to seek the support of legislators, said he would focus on all-round development of all States from Rashtrapati Bhavan and ensure justice for all sections of society, besides promoting modern education and fulfilling the aspirations of the youths.

Meanwhile, Kovind expressed his gratitude towards BJD by saying, "I am very happy to be here and grateful for the support of BJD led by Naveen Patnaik", Kovind said.

"His journey reposes faith in our Constitution's guarantee to every Indian to dream big irrespective of caste, creed or religion", Patnaik tweeted after meeting Kovind at the state Assembly. Then he visited the residence of BJP leader KV Singhdeo where he met BJP MLAs.

Kovind was earlier welcomed by leaders of both BJD and BJP at the city airport on his arrival by a special flight.

Union minister for tribal affairs Jual Oram, state BJP president Basant Panda, Singhdeo, former BJP minister Manmohan Samal, senior BJP leader Sajjan Sharma, Odisha finance minister Shashi Bhusan Behera, BJD vice-president Debi Mishra and Patro received him at the airport.
