Amarnath Yatra attack probe: J&K policeman arrested, PDP legislator under scanner

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti met Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday in New Delhi to discuss the security situation in Kashmir. The people who are behind the violence in Kashmir wanted to communalise us across the country.

She blamed the deteriorating law and order situation on foreign powers.

She also backed the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which has been bitterly opposed by the Centre because it runs though Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

It remains to be seen what new dimension this latest accusation against China will add to the already-frosty relations between the two neighbours, especially in the wake of the stand-off on India's northeastern front. "We can not win this war unless political parties and the entire country supports us", she told reporters after the meeting.

Kashmir has been on boil for about a year with terror attacks taking place at regular intervals and a large section of the people, especially the youth, putting up violent resistance to security against carrying on with anti-terrorist operations.

Leung had held aloft a yellow umbrella , a symbol of the 2014 pro-democracy protests. But the bloc shrunk in November after the disqualification of the two activists.

Their meeting also came a day after the home minister briefed top opposition leaders on the situation in the valley and steps taken to ensure better security for the Amarnath pilgrims.

However, the Indian government had strongly rejected the Chinese intentions saying there is no need of third-party intervention in the Kashmir issue.

The meeting between both the leaders focussed on the issue of security to be provided to the pilgrims.

After the meeting, she told the media that Monday night's attack on the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims in which seven devotees were killed was aimed at "disturbing communal harmony".
