Floyd was arrested for an extreme DUI previous year, and he ended up serving time in jail before being released.

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Michael Floyd has been suspended for the first four games of the 2017 season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, a league spokesman informed the team Friday.

Floyd is eligible to play in all preseason games and can return to the team after the October 1 game against the Detroit Lions. "I have no clue", Zimmer told the Pioneer Press, recounting his discussion with Floyd after a series of failed self-administered Breathalyzer tests.

In June, Floyd was sentenced to one day in jail for violating the terms of his probation, according to Robert Gundran of USA Today.

Floyd pleaded guilty to extreme DUI in February after Scottsdale police found him unconscious behind the wheel of his SUV in December.

The wide receiver was cut by the Cardinals after the arrest and spent the end of the season with the New England Patriots, but was not active for the Super Bowl.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer was skeptical of Floyd's defense.

Floyd will be missed for the first quarter of the season.

The Vikings signed Floyd to a one-year deal in May, and he is allowed to participate in all preseason games and practices.

General manager Rick Spielman released a statement last month, after the judge's ruling, saying the Vikings "expect (Floyd) to be with the team at the start of training camp" on July 26.
