Musk warns of worst-case scenario from artificial intelligence

Elon Musk thinks the government needs to regulate artificial intelligence (AI) now, before it becomes unsafe to humanity, the entrepreneur told a gathering of state governors over the weekend.

At the National Governors Association's 2017 meeting, Musk warned about the disruptive effects in robotics and other fields, cautioning that people "should be really concerned about AI".

Musk believes that we can't sit around waiting to see which destructive paths AI may take us along, and insists we need regulation to combat potential threats.

A few days back SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk had tweeted that he has acquired the X.com from PayPal and it was rumoured that he has spent around $5 million on the deal, which made X.xom one of the most expensive domains of all time.

Tesla and other vehicle manufacturers have invested in AI research as part of their efforts to build effective self-driving cars, but Musk envisages a Terminator-style scenario in which sentient computers start wars by presenting false information.

Musk urges the Government and the authorities to understand this unsuspecting technology, capable imitating and replacing human decisions and actions. One can imagine a situation when crucial emails, let's say one from your boss, are in fact churned out from an AI bot. With artificial intelligence, we are summoning the demon. "Like people including Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk have predicted, I agree that the future is scary and very bad for people", he said.

Racial disparity in dementia risk, experts report
The results showed that a larger number of stressful events was linked to poorer cognitive function in later life. This is the first study to look at racial disparity in the risk of incident dementia among this older population.

Governments must have a better understanding of artificial intelligence technology's rapid evolution in order to fully comprehend the risks, he said. Musk at that point drew a difference amongst AI and conventional focuses for direction, saying "AI is a fundamental risk to the existence of human civilization, in a way that vehicle accidents, airplane crashes, faulty drugs, or bad food were not".

As a CEO of two innovative companies and co-founder of two AI start-ups, Musk is aware of the difficulties of overcoming harsh regulations.

"[They] could start a war by doing fake news and spoofing email accounts and fake press releases, and just by manipulating information". "Once there is awareness people will be extremely afraid, as they should be". "The pen is mightier than the sword", Musk warned.

"Our goal is to advance digital intelligence in the way that is most likely to benefit humanity as a whole, unconstrained by a need to generate financial return", the company website states.

Musk's comments came as he was speaking to U.S. governors this weekend.

"I think things are going to grow exponentially".
