Then, around 1:03 p.m., a third train was sent to rescue both stuck trains.

The train with about 600 passengers was delayed right before entering Penn Station at 4:45 p.m.

"We always have two on standby", the spokesman said of the rescue trains.

"Amtrak engineering forces remain on scene monitoring the area and are working to determine the root cause of the overhead power issue", Amtrak spokesman Mike Tolbert said in a statement Saturday evening.

Amtrak Chief Operating Officer Scot Naparstek says work to fix the aging infrastructure at Penn Station is ahead of schedule. Amtrak sent a second train out to the train, but the rescue train also became disabled.

There were 170 people on the Amtrak train, which was travelling from Miami to NY.

Amtrak officials said the first week of track work in Penn Station New York has gone "very well" and is even slightly ahead of schedule.

He had kinder words for current Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn , saying that the June election result was "remarkable". In an interview set to be aired on Sky News Sunday, he said "I think it's possible now that Brexit doesn't happen".

Amtrak service between NY and New Jersey was also restored.

There have been no reported injuries, and passengers did not have to evacuate.

A stranded train out of Penn Station is the latest episode in the Summer of Hell.

Lhota says transit officials and commuters are "getting through this together".

The trouble began when a train from Miami carrying 165 people stalled as it entered Penn Station about 11:50 a.m.

That was the third NJ Transit derailment at the station since March. The Path will absorb extra traffic due to the closing of tracks at Penn Station.
