Australian woman shot dead by police after dialling 911 to report assault

She is said to have gone to the driver's-side door and talked to the officers through the window.

The shooting of an Australian woman by U.S. police has raised serious concerns after it was revealed the officers didn't have their body cameras turned on.

She was engaged to American man Don Damond for three years prior to her death, and took his name before they managed to tie the knot. Reports that the police officers' body cameras were turned off is also causing outrage by some people giving feedback about the incident on social media.

Ms Damond trained as a veterinarian in Sydney, and went on to study and practice yoga and meditation.

He said she called the police when she heard a sound in the alley.

"I share the same questions other people have about why we don't have body cam footage of it, and I hope to get answers to that in the days coming", Hodges said.

An officer shot and killed a woman in the Fulton neighborhood on Saturday night, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA).

Authorities told the Minneapolis Star Tribune that the officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

"I have been working on behalf of all of you all night and all day and I will continue to do so".

Washington Nationals Acquire Ryan Madson, Sean Doolittle From Oakland Athletics
On top of their obvious value on the mound, Sean Doolittle and Ryan Madson are signed to extremely affordable deals. Madson, 36, has allowed just one earned run in 14 innings with 12 strikeouts over his past 13 appearances.

The woman has been named as Justine Damond, who ran meditation workshops at the Lake Harriet Spiritual Community, The Guardian reported.

The BCA, who is in charge of the case, is trying to determine if any video evidence of what happened exists.

My thoughts are now with everyone affected by this tragic incident, especially the deceased woman and her family.

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed to news.com.au it was "providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian woman who died in a shooting in Minneapolis".

Betsy Hodges, the mayor of Minneapolis, addressed Damond's killing in a statement on Facebook. Not only were both police officers' body cameras turned off turning the shooting that took place around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday evening, but the squad car's camera also did not record the shooting.

Justine Damond's stepson Zach Damond said in a Facebook video he released on Monday morning, that he "demands answers" from the police for what he described as unprovoked violence.

Activist Mel Reeves, who was at the scene told his Facebook followers that a vigil to support the family would be held at 6pm Sunday on 51st Street near where the shooting occurred.

"She believed we have more power over our circumstances - even our genes - than we have been taught", Davis-Suggs said.

Alison Monaghan, who trained Ms Damond in alternative therapies, described her as "the most handsome person" who was "all about giving to other people".
