Army launches operation in tribal areas targeting ISIS

Pakistan Army has launched a major operation in its volatile tribal areas to stop the Islamic State making inroads into areas bordering Afghanistan, the military's spokesman said on Sunday.

Director General (DG) of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor Bajwa has said on Sunday that Pakistan Army does not have a direct relation with Panamagate Joint Investigation Team (JIT). Referring to the recent visit of US Senators representing Defence Committee, he said that they were taken to the areas where the state had regained her writ by eliminating terror and they had expressed appreciations of the role of Pakistan's military. "In Afghanistan, yes, it is getting stronger, but we don't believe it is the same as the Daesh in the Middle East", he said.

"As many as 56 major operations including the Mastung operation and over 9,000 intelligence based operations were launched while over 1,500 joint check-posts were established across Pakistan", he said.

The spokesman said Afghan military had been informed ahead of the latest anti-ISIL operation.

Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor recalled that a meeting of the provincial apex committee held in Karachi was attended by the Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa to review the security situation.

Speaking on the Line of Control violations being carried out by India, he said that the South Asian country targets civilian population.

"No one wants peace in Afghanistan more than Pakistan", the DG ISPR said, adding, "We need to bring peace in our country first".

In Sindh, he said that total 522 terrorists had voluntarily surrendered before the security forces while other 15 were killed during various operations. Thirteen major operations and over 800 IBOs were conducted in Balochistan.

I plan on suing", added the rapper, proving he could be like a dog with a bone when it came to matters close to the heart. The "Man of the Year" rapper took to Twitter to scorch United Airlines for placing his new puppy on the wrong flight.

There has been a decreasing trend in sectarian attacks, the DG ISPR said. We fire towards bunkers where we think the firing is coming from.

Incidents of terrorism in Pakistan have shown a drop over the three-year period from 2014-2017, he said.

He termed the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as "very critical for the progress of Pakistan" and said the armed forces would give complete security and will not let it fail at any cost.

Answering a question about the case of Indian Naval Agent Kubhushan Jhadev, the DG ISPR said, the agent was given time to appeal before the appellate Military Court and after rejection from there the culprit had appealed before the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 27 major operations and 817 IBOs were carried out.

To a question, the DG said Raymond Davis has written his book as contractor and such books have their own agendas, which could be exposed later on.

It is a sub-judice matter and the SC will make its decision in the case, he said adding that it is the duty of every Pakistani to ensure the supremacy of the law and Constitution.

"For this, the army should continue to perform its role with support of all other state institutions".
