Pelicans meet with Rajon Rondo about potential 1-year deal, report says

Rajon Rondo meets with Pelicans, could be reunited with DeMarcus Cousins

However, according to a Thursday afternoon report from Zach Lowe of ESPN, it appears as though the veteran signal caller may be one step closer to finding his next National Basketball Association franchise.

Should Rondo sign, he would be the second point guard New Orleans signs this offseason.

Rondo is obviously at the tail end of his career, which is why it makes sense that this would be a one-year rental.

Even though New Orleans just re-signed point guard Jrue Holiday to a five-year, $126 million guaranteed deal, the Pelicans reportedly are interested in having Rondo fill a backup role to give Holiday more rest during the season. He only averaged 27 minutes per game, which was his lowest average since his rookie season.

Rondo has career averages of 10.7 points and 8.5 assists over 11 National Basketball Association seasons. He played for the Dallas Mavericks, Kings and the Bulls.

Rondo played with Pelicans center DeMarcus Cousins in Sacramento during the 2015-16 season, and the two formed a strong bond. With Rondo sidelined, the Bulls lost four straight.

Rondo, an 11-year veteran, played in 69 games with the Chicago Bulls last season and averaged 7.8 points, 6.7 assists and 5.1 rebounds.

The Pelicans' interest in Rondo, an unrestricted free agent, comes amid potential competition from the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers.
