Corporate earnings of June quarter will be crucial for the NSE Nifty index to touch the 10,000 mark this week

Twenty-one of the 30 Sensex constituents ended higher on Monday, while overall declining issues beat advancing ones 1,378 to 1,306 while 171 remained unchanged. BSE Sensex was trading 56 points higher at 32,075.65 while the Nifty50 was at 9,905.85, up 20 points at around 12.30 PM.

The NSE 50-share Nifty closed above the 9,900-level for the first time triggered by fresh buying from operators on hopes of good corporate earnings amid positive global sentiment. Gold for delivery in August gained Rs 33, or 0.12 per cent, to Rs 28,029 per 10 gram in 517 lots.

Asian stocks also rose, with the MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan up about 0.4 percent. Nifty Realty (up 1.39 per cent) and Nifty IT (up 1.14 per cent) were the top gainers on the index. BSE Small-cap index closed higher by 0.01% at 15,910.

Ahead of Wipro's board meeting this week on stock buyback and quarterly results, its shares rose by over 3% on Monday, adding Rs3,949 crore to the firm's market valuation.

As per details on the BSE website, shares of Wipro were up by 3.55 per cent, Vedanta were up by 2.25 per cent and Mahindra & Mahindra were up 1.79 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Hang Seng index surged to its fresh two-year highs to 26,470.58 up, 0.3 per cent, Reuters reported.
