Shikhar Dhawan Replaces Injured Murali Vijay In India Squad For Sri Lanka Test Series

Shikhar Dhawan has been announced as Murali Vijay's replacement for India's tour of Sri Lanka, which starts with the first Test on July 26 at Galle.

Dhawan, who has been in good form in limited-overs, was initially ignored for the Test series.

The Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) today issued a statement saying,"Vijay, who had suffered a wrist injury during Australia's tour of India, has complained of pain in his right wrist, while playing a preparatory match".

"The BCCI medical team has therefore advised that Vijay should continue his rehabilitation program", the BCCI release added. Dhawan last played a single Test at Kolkata during the New Zealand tour of India last October, following which he suffered a hand injury and had to sit out the series against England and Australia.

Two days before the book is released, an interview with Oprah Winfrey will air on Winfrey's OWN network. Doors for the event are at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.

Murali Vijay is one of the best Test batsmen in India and also one of the most reliable opening batsmen in the world, in Test cricket.

Dhawan was the highest run-scorer at the ICC Champions Trophy in June but was ousted from the Test squad by Abhinav Mukund. After a magnificent series against England and Bangladesh, Vijay managed just 113 runs in three Tests at an average of 22.60. Star batsman Rohit Sharma and pacer Mohammad Shami were re-called for the Sri Lanka tour scheduled to be held from July 26 to September 6.

The ODI series will begin at the Dambulla International Stadium on August 20 followed by the second and third ODIs at Kandy. He was out of action for nearly three-and-a-half months and had missed the entire IPL season with the Dharamsala Test against Australia in March being his last competitive match.
