Ali Modu Sheriff Acting Chairman of the PDP

Walid Jibrin, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) board of trustees, says he would have resigned if the supreme court ruling on the chairmanship of the party had favoured Ali Modu Sheriff.

Few hours after the apex court ruling, reports in the traditional media and social media platforms had indicated that Senator Sheriff had on his Twitter Handle, congratulated Makarfi, pledging to work with him in the interest of the party.

"We further warn all mischief makers to desist from trying to exploit the huge political capital of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff for selfish gains".

The judgment which sacked the leadership of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff was hailed as victory for democracy by prominent members of the party including the Immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan and the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

However, the former Borno State Governor has dissociated himself from the report even as he described the said congratulatory message as fake.

In a show of good faith, Sheriff has released a statement through spokesperson of the party's National Caretaker Committee, Dayo Adeyeye, saying that the court judgement should serve as a fresh start for the party and not another reason to stay divided. Amnesty is a reprieve for those who have committed offence under our statutes.
