Two German tourists have been stabbed to death in a suspected terror attack in Egypt.

The source offered condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Egypt, reaffirming Riyadh's solidarity with Cairo.

The interior ministry said in a statement that the attacker, who had swum ashore, was arrested and was being questioned. Their nationalities were not immediately known.

Witnesses said attackers blasted the vehicle with automatic rifles then took equipment and threw petrol bombs inside the auto before fleeing.

Hurghada is one of Egypt's most popular beach resorts, especially with Europeans.

Most of the terrorist operations were claimed by a Sinai-based group loyal to the regional Islamic State (IS) militant group.

New Hampshire may see lovely northern lights show Sunday night
If the sky is clear enough and other factors are in place, there's a chance all of MI could get a view of the Northern Lights. The particles interact with molecules of atmospheric gases to cause the famed glowing red and green colors of the aurora.

The ministry said three gunmen opened fire on a police vehicle and then fled, killing two policemen and three conscripts.

The Russian embassy in Cairo confirmed to Daily News Egypt Saturday that a Russian tourist was injured in the attack and said that she "is safe now". The attacks, mainly targeting police and military, increased after the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi in 2013 by military following massive protests against his rule.

"We condemn in the strongest possible terms this cowardly and spiteful act, which seems to have targeted tourists who just wanted to spend a carefree and relaxing time at the sea", the spokesperson said.

The police raided their hiding place in Giza province near the capital Cairo and exchanged fire with the two Hasm members.

The attack comes a week after Islamic militants killed 23 army personnel in Sinai Peninsula. Egypt's Christians account for about 10 percent of the country's 93 million people.
