As the New York Post noted, Walmart passed the blame to a third party seller that had actually written the description which ended up on its website.

The item, a wig cap, was being sold by a third party seller on Walmart's online marketplace.

The retailer was slammed early Monday after the color of a netting weave cap - used as a protective layer between a person's hair and sewn-in hair extensions - on its site was described as the color "N- Brown".

Following the backlash, the racial slur disappeared from the description for the wig cap which the site said is sold by Jagazi Naturals.

While they declined to identify the vendor selling the hair net, Walmart says it has removed the listing from its website and called it a "clear violation of our policy".

Police have confirmed the incident is "criminal" in nature and not believed to have any terror links. Sunday in the 6200 block of 60th Avenue, Prince George's County police said.

A third-party vendor on, the retailer's marketplace, used a racial slur to describe the color of a product, a protective cap created to be worn as a layer in between a person's real hair and sewn-in hair extensions. Travon Free, a writer for "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee", tweeted Sunday night.

"Oh @Walmart, why is this on your website? No one will buy the product when you put that offensive name on it".

"N****R-BROWN! Really We woke up this morning to the news that someone has used our name JAGAZI to list an item". "Please beware that we are reporting this to as many people as we can and trying to get all the listings pulled down".

"The real JAGAZI is a 100% black company for black people. We are feeling the pain here as well", said Chizo Onuh of Jagazi Naturals.
