Broncos' Billy Winn out for 2017 with knee injury

Broncos DE Derek Wolfe carted off field at practice

Though he was carted off the field and taken to the trainer's room without being able to put weight on his injured leg, the Broncos do not deem the ankle injury as something serious.

The vaunted Denver defense can not afford to absorb any more serious injury blows. Backup defensive lineman Billy Winn is out for the year with a right knee injury and defensive tackle Kyle Peko is also mending a broken foot.

Broncos veteran safety T.J. Ward sits out Saturday morning's practice with an injury. The Broncos made one move to bulk up the line on Saturday, but another potential loss could set them back even further than they started the day.

But after practice, Wolfe got some good news - unlike his teammate Shane Ray, who will likely miss the beginning of the regular season.

Farah denied winning send-off in London as Edris claims 5000 metre gold
For Farah, there will be no comeback on the track, as he now moves up the marathon looking to extend his gold medal haul. Perhaps this was a step too far into greatness, even for an athlete like Farah.

Wolfe recorded 51 tackles and 5.5 sacks in 14 games last season.

That performance earned him a four-year extension worth $36.7 million just before the Broncos' victory in Super Bowl 50 over the Carolina Panthers.

Should Wolfe miss the rest of the preseason, the 3-4 defensive ends next in line for the Broncos are Adam Gotsis, Zach Kerr and Shakir Soto. After practice, coach Vance Joseph said that Wolfe has an ankle injury that did not appear to be serious at first look. The team will travel to San Francisco on Tuesday to begin joint practices with the 49ers ahead of their August 19 preseason game.
