Danny Drinkwater to Chelsea: Leicester star odds-on to join Premier League champions

Chelsea's possible starting XI after the summer transfer window

Chelsea are preparing to table a bid of at least £25million for Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater over the next week, according to a report. It's likely that the Chelsea boss is keen to improve his midfield options, but it's doubtful that the 27-year-old would provide the club with the quality the Italian manager is looking for. While that valuation is apparently well above Chelsea's own valuation of a player who would at most fill in as a rotational player, given the current market conditions and Chelsea's need for reinforcements, now is not the time to penny-pinch.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the west London side are ready to make another attempt to lure the 27-year-old midfielder to Stamford Bridge after failing with their first bid to sign the England worldwide.

Should Drinkwater move to Stamford Bridge, he would be reunited with former Leicester team mate N'Golo Kante with whom he had a sparkling partnership with during Leicester's title winning campaign in 2015/16. Such a strong interest in Danny Drinkwater comes as a result of Nemanja Matic's sale to Manchester United.

The Telegraph claim Chelsea are now set to go back in with an improved £25m bid over the coming days after seeing their opening £15m offer rejected by Leicester last week.

Shakespeare's first match as permanent Leicester manager will see the 2015-16 Premier League champions travel to Arsenal on Friday.

Chelsea have signed four players so far this summer - Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata.
