Matsuyama, Kisner shares lead

American Justin Thomas and South African Louis Oosthuizen were two behind heading into the final round of the year's last major.

Jason Day plays from the sponsor's area at Quail Hollow's 18th hole today.

England's Paul Casey finished bogey, bogey, double bogey to drop back to level par but remains the highest placed British player.

Kisner, a US PGA Tour victor three months ago at Colonial, shared the 18-hole lead with Denmark's Thorbjorn Olesen, who was four-over halfway into his second round.

After his birdie at seven, Stroud gave himself a 10-foot birdie putt at the par-4 eighth but missed and tapped in for par, then closed with another tap-in par at nine.

But sandwiched in-between them all is Chris Stroud, a 35-year-old journeyman with a real shot of stealing the major away from all of them.

McIlroy was in danger of missing the halfway cut for the fourth time in his last seven major appearances after dropping four shots in the space of five holes at Quail Hollow. The snappiest dressed Arsenal fan in America drilled his opening approach shot to five feet and then sank a 20-footer on the second for back-to-back birdies.

Kisner made par on 17 but on the final hole hit his second shot into a stream only for it to fortunately bounce out and into the rough. "I was able to lay down in the locker room and get some rest", world number three Matsuyama said. Three 6s on his final four holes left him with a disappointing 71, 3-over for the tournament.

Day - US PGA victor in 2015 - started the day on six under putting him in the final group alongside Kisner and Matsuyama.

He didn't make a bogey after the sixth hole and saved his momentum several times from poor positions off the tee.

Police also said that the Itoo and two others were involved in a number of anti-national and militancy-related activities. The operation was halted for the night but the forces maintained cordon of the area to stop the militants from fleeing.

His decision to attack with his second shot on that hole from behind a tree - his shot ricocheted off another tree further up in front of him - will long be questioned by observers. Instead of pitching out to the fairway, he tried hooking it around the tree and the gallery but the shot hit the pine and the ball went into a bush.

He was forced to chip out and after eventually reaching the green, three-putted for an eight.

Kisner hasn't fared well in a dozen major appearances, but that hasn't changed his attitude when it comes to vying for the biggest wins in the sport.

The round will resume Saturday with 26 players on the course.

"Kis is on fire right now", said McIlroy.

"I didn't even know what he made".

Lahiri, who was tied 33rd after a 72 in the first round, struggled with his start, carding a bogey on the first hole before making five par consecutive par effort. Namely, that his 73 on Saturday was exactly on brand for what he's done in the major championships this year (see below).

"It was more gettable after the rain delay than it was before, no doubt about it", Spieth said.

"The PGA Championship I think is going to be the toughest for me", he said.
