The governor of the Northern Marianas Ralph Torres says he has "full faith and trust" in US President Donald Trump to protect America's Pacific territories from North Korean attack.

The Asian country warned that it is preparing to fire four missiles over Japan and into the waters around Guam - where some 7,000 USA military personnel reside among the island's population of 160,000 American citizens.

"For me because I'm a father, so it's really concerning, you know, I wish it didn't have to come to that", he said. KCNA said on Thursday the North Korean army would complete plans in mid-August to fire four intermediate-range missiles over Japan to land in the sea 18 to 25 miles (30-40 km) from Guam. Pyongyang says it will be ready to send its missile launch plan to Kim for approval just before or as the drills begin.

The Guam scenario comes at an alarming time for the USA, as the Washington Post cited US intelligence officials Tuesday as saying that North Korea has successfully produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead that can fit inside its missiles, a conclusion not yet mentioned by South Korea's military. North Korea has previously mobilized large crowds to show its resolve when tensions escalate.

U.S. soldiers fire a salute during a change of command and change of responsibility ceremony for Deputy Commander of the South Korea-U.S. Trump, responding to a report that US intelligence indicates Pyongyang can now put a nuclear warhead on its long-range missiles, vowed to rain down "fire and fury" if challenged. Trump said he thought US allies South Korea and Japan were "very happy" with how he was handling the confrontation.

You have this sort of Bannon-Bart influence in there that is a snag on the president. I think people are probably reluctant to tell him the truth.

Its military officials intend for them to land a little outside the 14-mile mark that is accepted as the limit of territorial waters, North Korean state media said, subject to Kim Jong-un's agreement. USA bombers have flown over the Korean Peninsula several times to show American strength after Pyongyang's missile tests.

That's why the island of Guam was thrust into the spotlight Wednesday after North Korea threatened a strike that would create "an enveloping fire" around it and said an attack would come this month.

Days later, South Korea's military analyzed the missile could have targeted US military bases in Guam, about 3,400 kilometers away from the North, had it been flown at a normal angle.

U.S. officials have said new steps that would target Chinese banks and firms doing business with Pyongyang are in the works, but these have appeared to be put on hold to give Beijing time to show it is serious about enforcing new United Nations sanctions.

Asked later by reporters to explain the remark, Trump said: "Those words are very, very easy to understand". "Perhaps she is referring to Germany".
